Winter months can be a busy time. Shorter days, hard frosts and snow limit the amount of time available to us.

Grass is more or less dormant during winter but a degree of root development continues unless the ground is frozen. First Lawns winter feed contains microbial stimulants to enhance the relationship between the grass roots and soil microbes; this will help the lawn to develop roots that will sustain it through the stress of the next summer.

Moss is far from dormant. This is its growing season, and mild damp winters help it along. First Lawns care programme applies turf hardener/moss inhibitor at the same application as the winter feed to slow the development of moss.

Winter aeration work is carried out to improve surface drainage, loosen the soil (again this improves root development) and remove thatch from the lawn via hollow-tining.
